Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin

Date: Jul 05, 2008
Location: Las Vegas, Nev.
Venue: Mandalay Bay Events Center
Broadcast: Pay Per View

Current light heavyweight champion of the UFC, none other than Rampage Jackson, will be putting his belt on the line at UFC 86. He is now officially scheduled to take on Forrest Griffin on July 5th, 2008.

Bet Jackson vs Griffin Fight Odds

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will take on Justin McCully at UFC 86 on July 5 in Las Vegas. Frank Mir (11-3-0) last stepped into the cage at 81 defeating Brock Lesnar by submission in the first round.

Mir is riding high after a come-from-behind victory over Brock Lesnar in February. McCully, meanwhile, will return from injuries and fight in the octagon for the first time since his successful UFC debut nearly a year ago.

Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion, earned co-main-event status during his UFC 81 fight with former NCAA Division I wrestling champion and WWE performer Lesnar. On the verge of suffering a TKO early in the fight, Mir got a break when Lesnar was deducted a point for blows to the back of the head. Lesnar continued to deliver brutal strikes, but Mir survived to slap on a fight-ending kneebar just 90 seconds into the fight.

Mir, who suffered a devastating motorcycle accident in 2004, picked up his second straight victory and his third win in his past four fights.

McCully (8-3-2) has not fought since April of last year, due to an injury that forced him off a scheduled bout at UFC 77. McCully’s last win came at UFC Fight Night 9 where he defeated Antoni Hardonk by unanimous decision.

With his victory over Antoni Hardonk a year ago, McCully, a member of Tito Ortiz's Team Punishment, is now 3-0 since returning to MMA after a three-year break from the sport. He has a four-fight win streak and has won five of his past six fights overall.

Joe “Daddy” Stevenson will take on Gleison Tibau at UFC 86, July 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stevenson is coming off a hard fought loss for the UFC lightweight title to the “Prodigy” BJ Penn at UFC 80.

Joe Stevenson (28-8) will look to get back in the 155-pound title hunt when he takes on Gleison Tibau (15-5) at UFC 86 on July 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Joe Stevenson is coming off a very rough submission loss to arguably the top mixed martial artist in the game, that being BJ Penn. Tibau is coming off a loss as well but to top lightweight Tyson Griffin at UFC 81. It will be interesting to see how both react to tough losses.

UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard (21-7-2 MMA, 4-3 UFC), who briefly left the organization after back-to-back first-round submission losses, will return to the UFC to fight Dennis Siver (11-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC 86.

Melvin Guillard earned a unanimous-decision victory over Eric Regan (9-9) in a Rage in the Cage event last month and now set to return to the UFC against Siver.

Dennis Siver is the 29-year-old fighter had been booked to take on Guillard. The German made his octagon debut at UFC 70 and suffered an 81-second submission loss to Jess Liaudin.

Siver bounced back for a second-round knockout of Naoyuki Kotani at UFC 75 before a unanimous-decision loss to Gray Maynard earlier this year at UFC Fight Night 12.

UFC 87: Seek and Destroy

UFC 85Date: Aug 09, 2008
Location: Minneapolis, Minn.
Venue: Target Center
Broadcast: Pay Per View

The UFC officially announced the main event for UFC 87: Seek and Destroy this August in Minnesota. Current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St Pierre will put his belt on the line against Jon Fitch in a welterweight title fight.

Georges St. Pierre. He is thought by many to be the second best pound-for-pound fighter in the world behind Anderson "Spider" Silva. St. Pierre has a 16-2-0 lifetime professional MMA record, with his two losses coming against Matt Hughes at UFC 50 - The War of '04 and Matt Serra at UFC 69 - Shootout. In both cases, St. Pierre avenged his losses, thrashing Matt Hughes at both UFC 65 and UFC 79 and Matt Serra at UFC 83 - Serra vs. St. Pierre II. St. Pierre seems to be getting better with every match-up - his last three matches have been extremely one-sided affairs, where he was never in any real danger of losing.

It was already widely known that Jon Fitch was next in line for a shot at the welterweight title, we just didn’t know when that fight would happen. Well, August 9 is the date and the fight will be GSP’s first title defense since regaining the belt against Matt Serra at UFC 83 this past April.

Jon Fitch will have his work cut out for him, and you have to assume that St. Pierre will be a major favorite in this match-up.

UFC 87 also features heavyweight Brock Lesnar taking on Herring. Lesnar was originally scheduled to face UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman, but a knee injury has forced ‘The Hammer’ to withdraw from the show.

Also on the UFC 87 fight card is a lightweight matchup between Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta. This fight is expected to produce a number one contender for the next shot at the UFC lightweight title which will be up for grabs this Saturday night at UFC 84.

This should be a great summer for the UFC, as Jackson - Griffin will headline UFC 86, and St. Pierre - Fitch will headline UFC 87.

Understanding UFC Betting Odds:

UFC betting odds on the UFC Ultimate Fight Night in Las Vegas. If a newcomer to the betting world took a look at these numbers, he or she may be a bit confused. However, it really isn't all that complicated.

To help explain how the odds for betting on UFC or other MMA events work, I will provide an example of odds from one of the most watched UFC main events of all time, the rematch of Tito Ortiz vs Chuck Liddell.

Picking the outright winner:
Tito Ortiz to win -265
Chuck Liddell to win +175

Should a bettor pick Tito Ortiz to win, Couture would have to win by any means, and the bettor would receive $100 for every $265 bet. If the better had chosen Liddell to win, Liddell would have to win by any means and the better would receive $175 for every $100 bet.

Pick each fighter individually to win by knockout:
Tito by KO or stoppage +210
Liddell by KO or stoppage +270

Should a bettor pick Tito to win by knockout or ref stoppage, he or she would win $210 for every $100 bet. Choosing Liddell by knockout or ref stoppage would pay $270 for every $100 bet.

Pick each fighter to win by submission:
Tito by Submission +285
Liddell by Submission +315

Picking a winner by submission is similar to picking a fighter by knockout. Should a bettor pick Tito to win by submission, the bettor would receive $285 for every $100 bet. Picking Liddell by submission would pay $315 for every $100 bet.

A Brief History Of The UFC

The Ultimate Fighting Championships began in 1993. It redefined what martial arts was all about. It set in motion, the battleground for the karate community, where fighters from all backgrounds could come together and test their art, mano o mano, man vs man against the best, all trained in different arts. Set aside was the facade, the smoke screens and the mystique behind each art and now naked before you was the basic street fighter!

In the fist UFC 1, Royce Gracie made Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu famous with his tacticful ground fighting. He didn't have much in the way of kicks or punches, but his expert Jujitsu skills and joint locking techniques beat them all that day. More UFC History Here

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is a test of pure gladiator fighting skills. The fight occurs inside an octagon that is 32 feet across. The fighters are contained by a 5 foot link fence. Most participants have martial arts training in some discipline, however, this is by no means a requirement. It has a no holds barred philosophy although some rules have been added recently.

Although there can be a lot of blood, fights usually end with joint locks or choke holds and it is generally the more skilled opponent that wins. Size is an advantage, but skill in ending the fights with a finishing move (choke out, joint locks, etc.) are the best.
