2006. |
Hughes and St. Pierre last fought October 22,
2004 at UFC 50: THE WAR OF ‘04 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
At the time, St. Pierre had a perfect record. But Hughes
ended up giving St. Pierre his first career loss, forcing
him to tapout at the end of the first round. Since that day,
Hughes has maintained the welterweight crown and St. Pierre
has aggressively fought to put himself back in line for the
title, defeating former champion BJ Penn, Jason “Mayhem”
Miller, Frank Trigg and Sean Sherk. Meanwhile, Matt Hughes
defeated Frank Trigg, Joe Riggs, the legendary Royce Gracie
and most recently former champion BJ Penn.
For the heavyweight belt, defending champion Tim Sylvia
takes on ATT’s Jeff Monson.

The Ultimate Fighting
Championship is a test of pure gladiator fighting
skills. The fight occurs inside an octagon that is 32
feet across. The fighters are contained by a 5 foot
link fence. Most participants have martial arts
training in some discipline, however, this is by no
means a requirement. It has a no holds barred
philosophy although some rules have been added
recently.
Although there can be a
lot of blood, fights usually end with joint locks or
choke holds and it is generally the more skilled
opponent that wins. Size is an advantage, but skill in
ending the fights with a finishing move (choke out,
joint locks, etc.) are the best. |
