Since the ancient days of gladiators, spectators
have enjoyed the thrill of betting on combative
sporting contests. Every moment of a fight seems
much more exciting when there is money riding on the
outcome. Today is no different, as a growing number
of people are betting on modern-day gladiatorial
contests - mixed martial arts events.

Rampage is hard at work training
for another huge fight of his career against Dan Henderson
current Pride Fighting light heavyweight champ.
Preparing to face Jackson, Henderson knows that, if he wins this
fight, it will make him the true world champion and do something
that nobody else has ever done, Dan "Hollywood" Henderson
(22-5-0) has two championship belts now, so why not make it
three?
UFC 75 also includes a battle of two world class strikers when
CroCop takes on Cheick Kongo. CroCop will be coming back after a
tough loss to Gonzaga and lots of MMA "experts" claim he's lost
the fire. Can the 3-1 underdog Kongo take him out?
Mirko "Cro Cop" returns to the Octagon following his first UFC
loss to Brazil's Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70 in Manchester,
England. The fearsome kickboxer turned mixed martial artist was
the 2006 PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix Champion and was expected
by many to defeat Gonzaga en route to a mega-fight with Randy
Couture for the heavyweight title at UFC 74 in August. Instead,
Gonzaga turned the tables on "Cro Cop" and caught him with a
right leg kick to the head, sending him to the canvas in a
stunning upset nine seconds before the end of the first round.
"Cro Cop" now goes back to England in an attempt to defeat Kongo
and start a new reign of terror in the heavyweight division.
Kongo, like Cro Cop, is a kickboxer turned mixed martial artist.
Not much was known of the 6'4" 240-pound Parisian when he made
his UFC 61 debut in July of 2006 against Gilbert Aldana. He had
an impressive record and a stellar reputation as a kickboxer,
but many wondered if he could compete in the MMA arena. He
answered that question quickly as he halted the rugged Aldana in
the first round. Kongo then jumped back and scored another first
round stoppage
at UFC 62, this one over Christian Wellisch. At UFC 70, Kongo
triumphed with a majority decision over popular Brazilian
heavyweight Assuerio Silva, scoring his third win in the UFC.
Matt Hamill is already getting lots of bettors attention, but
most fans still see Bisping as an easy winner.
UFC 75 will be the promotion's third event of the year in
Europe, following UFC 70 in Manchester, England and UFC 72 in
Belfast, Ireland.
Odds for UFC 75 have been posted already. The fight will be held
on Saturday, September 8th in London England.

The Ultimate Fighting
Championship is a test of pure gladiator fighting
skills. The fight occurs inside an octagon that is 32
feet across. The fighters are contained by a 5 foot
link fence. Most participants have martial arts
training in some discipline, however, this is by no
means a requirement. It has a no holds barred
philosophy although some rules have been added
recently.
Although there can be a
lot of blood, fights usually end with joint locks or
choke holds and it is generally the more skilled
opponent that wins. Size is an advantage, but skill in
ending the fights with a finishing move (choke out,
joint locks, etc.) are the best. |
