56 Full Force: Rich Franklin And Matt
Hughes Defend Titles Against Nate Quarry and
Joe Riggs Saturday, Nov. 19 at MGM Grand.
Parisyan Out,
Riggs In For Hughes
Due to a leg injury, Karo Parisyan has had to
pull out of his title fight against UFC
Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes at UFC 56:
FULL FORCE Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005 at the MGM
Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Parisyan’s
physician has stated he will recover from the
injury, but not in time to compete against
Hughes. Stepping up for a shot at the title is
Joe “Diesel” Riggs, a former heavyweight, who
in dropping down to welterweight has gained
speed and conditioning, but has kept much of
that heavyweight power. Riggs (26-6-0)
6'0"/170 lbs., fighting out of Phoenix, Ariz.,
just defeated Chris Lytle at UFC 55: FURY
(10/7/05) by TKO at 2:00 of the second round,
becoming the first man ever to finish the
veteran fighter. Riggs is excited about his
upcoming opportunity and is ready to battle
Hughes for the welterweight crown.

Nate Quarry was one of the favorites to win
the first season of The Ultimate Fighter until
a training injury knocked him out of the
competition before he had a chance to fight.
Nate has since fought on three UFC under cards
and won all three fights by knockout.

Heavyweight Bout
Kevin Jordan vs Gabriel Gonzaga The Ultimate Fighting Championship is a
test of pure gladiator fighting skills. The fight occurs inside an octagon that is 32 feet across. The fighters are contained by a 5 foot link fence. Most participants have martial arts training in some discipline, however, this is by no means a requirement. It has a no holds barred philosophy although some rules have been added recently.
Although there can be a lot of
blood, fights usually end with joint locks or choke
holds and it is generally the more skilled opponent that wins. Size is an advantage, but skill in ending the fights with a finishing move (choke out, joint locks, etc.) are the best.
